Artist Statement:
Through renderings of botanical, ancient historical monuments, foreign landscapes, seascapes, I tell a visual story of life’s journey. I work in water color, acrylic paint and, occasionally, pen and ink using a tight, illustrative hand. My work is an expression the adventure, and sometimes the torture, humans must endure. I like to say my work is “warm and fuzzy” however living in this world is not always that. I am predominantly self-taught. My process is influenced by past artists such as American illustrator James Montegomery Flagg, and 17th century Italian artist, Caravaggio.

Clyde J. Kell created and operated an internet radio station for over 18 years, playing nostalgic radio plays. Clyde has always been creative and a visual artist. With encouragement from his adult daughters, Clyde has taken his art to a professional level, working in a representational style with a tight illustrative hand, water color, pen and ink and acrylic paints.

Clyde creates botanical works, renderings of ancient historical monuments, foreign landscapes, seascapes, and a Pulp Radio Art series inspired by those wonderful dramatic plays of radio’s golden past. Clyde’s religious art series expresses the chiaroscuro technique of Caravaggio.

Clyde's work is an expression of various adventures while traveling around the world during service in the United States Navy. Past illustrators influence Clyde’s creative process, especially James Montgomery Flagg.
